For the first time ever FIVA was involved in an historic vehicle event associated with the visually impaired, essentially a treasure hunt with historic vehicles, where the navigators were all visually impaired youngsters who read out the clues that the drivers of the historic vehicle followed.
The Rallye Historic of the Senses was conceptualised by FIVA’s Indian ANM Classic Drivers Club in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), India, to give a chance to visually impaired students to showcase their talent. CDC tied up with an NGO for the visually impaired, Ek Kadam Aur Foundation for Education and Health from where 20 visually impaired students were chosen to navigate 20 historic cars. The format was a treasure hunt which took the participants to 6 landmarks in the city, aided only by the blind students who read out the clues from a Braille sheet.
The students impressed all the participants with the short time they took to read out the clues and the drivers reached the 6 landmarks across the city of Kolkata. All the students and participants were felicitated once the event finished, with prizes from FIVA’s Global Partner Motul, as well as CDC. The day ended with a firm commitment from the Club to support such causes and handed over a cheque of Rs 50,000 to the NGO, Ek Kadam Aur Foundation for Education and Health.
FIVA’s two Vice Presidents, Gabriela Magureanu and Gautam Sen were there to participate and partake in this socially thoughtful National Event, which had been recently registered in the FIVA Events Calendar.
“No doubt this is the beginnings of a brilliant concept that needs to be ‘exported’ and encouraged by FIVA across the world, an event idea that ought to be picked up, which we plan to do so in Romania with our ANF, Retromobil Romania,” said Gabriela Magureanu.
