During its recent vehicle census, CVUC discovered China’s first estate car, manufactured in 1965 by the Tianjin Bus Factory in China. Known as the Tianjin 620, it filled a gap in the Chinese automotive market.

Handcrafted by Chinese workers, the vehicle bears a resemblance to the Volkswagen T1. As China’s first domestically produced car, it played a role in hosting foreign dignitaries during exchanges between China and the United States, as well as between China and Japan.

Due to historical circumstances, production volumes were low at the time, and this is the only known surviving example. It is therefore extremely rare.
